Your CDs can last a lifetime if you take good care of them. Here are some tips on how to pro-long the life of your disc media.

  1. Handle your CDs with care.

  2. Store it in a cool dry place. Ideal storing temperature is 40ºC or 104ºF. If storing or filing multiple CDs, store it in an upright book-type position especially on long term storage. 

  3. Never expose it to heat and direct sunlight. Doing so will warp the disc making it un-playable, also exposure to direct sunlight will harm the dye in the disc and damage the recorded data.

  4. Do not expose it to dusty environment.

  5. Avoid touching the recorded side of the CD to prevent it from having smudges, oil prints, and fingerprints.

  6. Prevent the recorded side of the CD to have scratches as this may cause the CD to skip or not play at all.

  7. Do not bend your CD.

  8. Do not peel off or try to reposition the label sticker on the disc.

  9. Do not write on your CD using a pointed object or ballpen. If needed, use a felt tip marker that contains no solvents in the ink.

  10. If dirt sets on your discs, wipe it with a soft clean cotton cloth moving from the inner circumference to the outer edge. Never do a circular wipe as this could make a circular scratch that could damage the CD.

  11. Do not clean your CDs with any corrosive cleaner like acetone, thinner, denatured alcohol or a liquid metal polisher, or any multi-purpose cleaner solutions and the likes. if stubborn dirt sets, use an isopropyl alcohol with 30% to 70% solution only.

  12. After using your CD, immediately return it properly and securely to its case.

  13. Do not place your discs face down on hard surfaces. If you have to, lie it label side down on the surface.

  14. If by accident you dropped your CD, pick it up gently, avoiding scratches from the surface.
