Welcome to the E-C Mix Records Music Publishing Division!
OBJECTIVES

The E-C Mix Records Music Publishing Division was established in January 2005 with objectives to aide composers, both amateurs and professionals, to have their materials marketed to the right channels; to secure better deals as well as to get paid on the right manner and amount; and to protect and uphold their creative and intellectual rights.

Our key role as a music publisher is to administer copyrights, to license songs, and to collect royalties, all for and on behalf of the songwriter.

The E-C Mix Records Music Publishing Division incorporates the division's Composers' Pool whereas membership are accepted through initially submitted potential solicited materials. The pool gives way for all members to interact with each other and to possibly collaborate.

OVERVIEW OF E-C MIX RECORDS MUSIC PUBLISHING

Music Publishing is the business of acquiring and exploiting rights in musical compositions. It is a business based on the songs themselves as distinct from the records, films, commercials, ringtones, videokes or other media in which they are used. Publishers are custodians of the song - the words and the music, and their business is to assure that they are heard and enjoyed.

Copyright conveys to writers the exclusive legal right to be compensated for the use of their songs. Generally, the right to receive copyright royalties extends for the life of the writer plus between 50 and 70 years following their death, depending on jurisdiction. Income generated by the use of a song is split between the writer and publisher, with the publisher in most instances responsible for collecting income on behalf of the writer and for distributing their share.

E-C Mix Records Music Publishing earn its revenue from licensing the right to use songs in its catalogue, a right they have to the exclusion of the whole world. Every time a song is used or performed, the owner of the copyright must grant permission, a license must be issued and a payment must be made. The more a song gets performed or used the more income is generated for the publisher and composer/songwriter. The vast majority of publishing revenues today come from three sources - mechanical, performance and synchronization royalties.

Composers or Songwriters earns from the following collected royalties:

Mechanical Royalties initially referred to royalties paid whenever a song was reproduced by a mechanical device (remember that one of a copyright owner's exclusive rights is the right to authorize the reproduction of their work). The term "mechanical royalties" was applied to the reproduction of songs in music boxes, player pianos rolls, and later, phonograph records. This term is still used, and Mechanical Royalties now refers to royalties paid for the reproduction of songs on CD, audiocassette, DAT, flexi-discs, musical greeting cards, cellphone ringtones and other media sold on a "per unit" basis.

Synchronization Royalties involves the marrying of the song (words and/or music) with visuals. Whenever a song is used with a visual image, it is necessary to obtain a "synchronization" (or "synch") license permitting the use of that song. Music publishers issue "Synchronization Licenses" to television advertisers, motion picture companies, video manufacturers and CD-Rom companies. With this, the composer and the music publisher generates income from products such as movie soundtracks, TV commercials, and videokes.

Performance Royalties refers to revenues generated when a song was performed live on stage or played in a public place. It covers a wide range of uses including when a song is broadcasted on radio, television, in a cinema or even over the Internet.
